The first products made of materials similar to modern glass were produced in various places around the world as early as the 3rd millennium BC by pouring melted glass into moulds. This technique became widespread in Egypt and around the 5th century BC also in Greece. The technique of blowing glass from a piece of melted glass taken from a glass furnace was developed around the first century BC. The first glassmaking workshops were also established at that time. Over the centuries this technology and tools were improved until eventually glass workshops became part of glasswork industry. Glass pressing technology developed in the 19th century made window glass a cheap and widely available raw material. The industrialization of method for mass production of blown-glass objects of repetitive size and shape (standard bottles, glasses, bulbs of light bulbs, etc.) also reduced the price of such products.
