Yachts as a separate category of watercraft began to be distinguished from the 17th century to the 19th century. Their construction and design were influenced by boats and small fishing vessels. Today this interesting industry is still a small market in Europe. The main material used in boatbuilding is fiberglass used mainly for hulls as well as other structural components. The yacht sector has also started to use carbon as an ultralight material since 2012. Currently, the Polish yacht industry is capable of manufacturing any type of watercraft starting with kayaks, rowboats and the smallest powerboats ending with luxury yachts worth more than €1 million. There are more than 150 shipyards operating in the country with an annual production of around 20,000-22,000 units. The sector is on a growth and development trend and yacht and boat manufacturers from Poland are gaining international recognition.
